Today I thought I would show you what it has looked like for the last few days around here. Part of the reason our days are so short is because, the skies have been very cloudy, and as a result we had quite a bit of snow again. That makes it kind of hard to go outside when there is a snowstorm. We're not alone in that regard.
The snow can actually be quite fun at times. On a clear day there are so many things to do in the snow. I know some people around here love to go skiing, starting this time of year. Some of the trails I go on are used for cross country skiing when it gets a little bit more snowy. Several of the hills in a place like this are always full of people, especially children, sledding.
Sledding, for those of you who live in warmer climates, is when you get on a big piece of slippery material, and ride it down a hill at lightning speed. It's actually pretty fun, and for the most part quite safe. There are other fun and unique things to do in the snow, I hope to show some of them here in the coming months as they happen.
The only problem with all of that is none of it can really be done on a gloomy day in a snowstorm. That's what it's been like around here. Just like if it were to rain really hard when it's warm, any kind of storm isn't very fun, unless you're inside. When I walked outside today it was a little bit warmer, and things looked like they were getting better.
I almost forgot about these two pictures. You can see the results of our recent days here. It doesn't look like there is as much snow as we really have. You can see a lot of the grass peeking through the snow. That's because of the wind, and the fact that I took these pictures when the snow just started.
The snow has melted a little bit today, because it's slightly warmer outside. That's the way it works in Michigan. Some states get snow, and it lasts for the rest of winter. Ours usually melts a few times. Our weather can be bitterly cold one day, and almost pleasantly warm the next. Maybe that's one of the good things about being here. You never know what to expect.
I can remember one year when it was warm here throughout the winter, but every state around us had a bitterly cold and snowy winter. We were having perpetual springlike temperatures. It was like that here for several years back then, as I remember. This winter seems like it has come early, so you never know in Michigan.
That's what's going on right now. I think I'll wrap this one up for today. I need to get back to showing what I intended from about a week ago. I have a few amazing things I found, that I don't want to get lost to time. Unless something unexpected happens, I'll begin putting some of those things together tomorrow. See you soon.

I think my comments setup wasn't working for a while today. I'm not sure for how long. Sorry, if you tried to make a comment and it didn't work. I've changed it back to the old way for now, so it's fixed.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I tried earlier. The photos remind me of blankets of white feathers. I so wish we had snow here. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat description, Jodapoet. I wish I would have thought of that one. Snow is only fun sometimes, so you're only missing a little bit. I sometimes wish our weather was more like yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know you tried to comment earlier. I wondered if the problem effected anyone else. Before I change the comment style back, I'll be sure to find out what the problem was. Sorry for the inconvenience.
