Welcome to this rare weekend edition of The Everyday Adventurer! I don't know for sure, but I may post more often on the weekend again if this post feels good for me. I said before that my posting would be a little more unpredictable. This is where it starts.
I've been telling you that I have only been seeing deer when it gets dark around here. That hasn't changed. But I decided to do something about it. My new camera has all kinds of capabilities that I haven't tried out, so I thought I'd try a few night shots.
I saw these deer just after the Sun went down, so I wasn't sure what might happen when I took their pictures. I set the camera on the Night Scenery setting and the pictures came out looking as if they were there in the daytime. I was surprised I got anything at all. My last camera would have only gotten a bunch of dark blurs.
This is just a small herd of about four. It's actually kind of typical, but I also see them much larger. Much of the time there are several groups like this scattered around the same field. It was still a little early, so these four were alone. I wish I would have thought to take some closer shots, but the deer ran away too soon when they saw me.
I have a little more time on my hands so I hope to be able to post more often again. I've had a little trouble getting some pictures because the innards of my trucks side window broke because of the cold weather. Now the window is stuck shut. I have to take it in and get it fixed now. They're going to keep it for about a week.
I liked rolling down the window and taking some pictures right from the truck. Now I have to get out to do it. Animals that seem okay with a noisy automobile coming near them don't really like it when I get out to try to get pictures. These deer were no exception. Getting out of the truck can be good too though. I need the exercise. I'll talk to you later.
Some truly great pictures Ratty. I thought maybe you had seen them out before the sun went down. You must be really pleased with that camera!!
ReplyDeleteI am really pleased with the camera. I'm now beginning to learn some of the other features on it, and that's making it seem even better.
DeleteAnimals do seem to pretty much ignore big vehicles but get jumpy if a human appears. Nice shots
ReplyDeleteThey sure do. I'm hoping that right after Christmas I'll be able to stay in the truck again for some of these animal pictures.
DeleteThose are cool photos! The night function of the camera can get some really great pictures.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at how good the night function on this camera worked. I'll be using it again often.
DeleteI never have tried this, I need to give a wing. I laughed at what little came out on a night hike last summer camping using a normal setting.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I didn't just try to use the normal setting for these. I wasn't sure how good these would come out because my last camera couldn't do this well.
DeleteYay for a weekend post! My camera also sometimes makes night time photos look like they're shot during the day. I took some photos of St Paul's cathedral the other day at dusk and it looked like noon.
ReplyDeleteI love deer so enjoying seeing these photos.
I may be doing more weekend posts. I'm hoping I can refine these night shots so they don't look quite so bright while still being easy to see.
DeleteA weekend post will not stress too much, just like I do.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to play with exposure on DSLR, that gives a bright scene even in a dark area.
I hope you can get your DSLR to make the pictures come out with just the right brightness. I'm still experimenting with my camera a bit too.
DeleteGreat night shots. It is amazing how long it takes to learn all those hidden features of a new camera!
ReplyDeleteI usually learn the new features a little faster, but I was extra lazy with this camera.
Deleteoh, a very quiet and serene scenery, something that I too would stop and take the scenery all in. Happy holidays, Ratty
ReplyDeleteThe best part of living around here is the scenery.
