So now you know. It was the dead tree all along. Not only did this make what I hope was a fun little game, but it also has a story to go along with it that's at least slightly amusing. The squirrel you see in this picture is very high up on that tree. Squirrels go up trees all the time, but this time it's a little bit different.
I have now brought you three previous posts from the same place and time as this supposedly innocent little squirrel. Yesterday was the game of the Hidden Squirrel. That's him. About ten days ago was the story of the Happy Hungry Squirrel that was one of many that were being fed by passers by. Over at Nature Center Magazine I put up a video of squirrels having a knock down drag out fight from the same day!
Before I actually tell you why this squirrel is up there on this dead tree, let's see the results of the game, and who won.
As you can see, this is a copy of the same picture from yesterday's game. This time I have circled the area where the squirrel is hiding so you know where it is. This picture isn't of the same good quality as the one from yesterday, so if you want to get another close look at the squirrel in the picture, you can see it there. It is quite visible. I checked.
You may have your doubts about how easy the game was this time, but to remove those doubts I want to announce that we have one winner of the game. Yup, one person was able to at least make an excellent guess. And who is that person? Drum roll please!
From her comment it sounded like she only guessed, but what a great guess it was! So right after you're finished here, go take a look at her blog and leave her lots of nice comments. Maybe you might even want to join her followers list. I was one of the first on that list.
On to the story. I'll try to keep it short.
Okay, when I walked over to this area of the mass feeding of the many squirrels, there were food frenzied squirrels running around all over. They were happy. They were fighting. They were running away! One such squirrel was this little guy who was doing all three.
This angry little varmint grabbed as many seeds as it could and ran for its life! It ran right up this tree to safety. But that wasn't the end for this little beastie. No! He perched up on top of this giant tree stump and growled and chirped at any other creature that dared to walk by.
And when he finished the seeds that he had taken with him to his lair up in the sky, he ran right back down the side of this tree and fought his way to more of that beautiful bounty of seeds. This is obviously one smart little squirrel. He was soon back up on his perch, growling and screeching at all comers. And that's exactly why he is up there.
Now considering the game from yesterday a little more, and to be fair to the rest of you who chose to make a guess, there were dozens of squirrels running around all over the place. So there may be squirrels hidden all over that picture. I checked your guesses and didn't find anything more than ol' Rocky, there on the tree, but there may be many more little sneakers in that picture.
So that's everything. A squirrel. A link to a cool blog. A story. And a lot of nonsense to go along with it. See you on the other side.
And now here's something we hope you'll really like!
Nature Center Magazine - Copas isn't a moose, but he likes horses a lot. Is that close enough? Come on over and see what he's discovered in the state of Louisiana!

Game: Hidden Squirrel
I don't usually like to do this, because of space considerations, but today's picture is extra big so you can find the hidden squirrel that's here somewhere. That's right, it's time for another game! I did this because there is a squirrel in this picture that is hidden in the funniest place! I'll bring the closeups to you tomorrow, and you'll laugh!
I actually took this picture specifically to make a game out of finding this crazy squirrel. It kept leaving its hiding place and then running back and glaring at every other creature around. I found the squirrel there because of all of the yips and growls that were coming from that spot.
Now for the rules of the game. All you have to do is find the squirrel that is hidden in this picture. Then leave your guess in the comments section below. Describe it the best you can; I'll be able to understand. You can make the same guess as anybody else if you want because this game is all for fun, and maybe some of you think alike.
I'll have some amusing pictures of this squirrel for you tomorrow, along with maybe a list of any of you that get this right. Here's a few hints:
Think about where you would like to go if you were a squirrel. You can click on the picture to see a much bigger version of it, or even download the picture to get a closer look. The squirrel is still not easy to see when the picture is bigger, but it's easier than the way it is now. And always remember, cheating is your friend.
See you tomorrow with the funny answer to this little mystery.
Nature Center Magazine - Emma Springfield has seen something amazing! She has actual pictures of what she says is a fairy! I saw them. She may be right.

Stalking A Fox Squirrel
This is the little guy that caused all the trouble yesterday. He doesn't look very hidden anymore, does he? This little fox squirrel was quietly eating a snack while I stood there taking his picture from a distant hiding place. Just as he was so very hard to see for you yesterday, he couldn't see me very well either.
A camera with a good zoom lense can be a blessing and a curse for an everyday adventurer. My first camera made it necessary for me to get very close to every animal I featured here. It became an exciting game for me to see how well I could sneak up on any creature I targeted. That can also be a problem sometimes. Animals run away, and some bigger animals get angry.
With my present camera and its powerful zoom I am able to sometimes keep my distance. I still have to get the right position, but the game isn't quite the same anymore. My skills as a photographer get better while my skills as an animal stalker begin to stagnate a little. I'm still having fun though because I always have to keep my eyes open to new prey.
This is the part where I reveal where the squirrel was hiding in the picture. It was hiding right out in the open, but I did a mean thing to all of you. The picture quality just wasn't good enough to find this squirrel, and I knew that very well. The real game was for you to guess. It was a fun test of your deductive reasoning skills. All of you did well, and some of you even won the game. Let's find out who the winners were.
I tried to get all the winners, but I'm not always perfect. Go visit their blogs. I know you haven't seen them all yet. These are each very good friends, and they can be your friends too if you give them the chance to know you.
Now we have a better look at where the squirrel was perched. He is right there to the right of that tree with the big hole in it. See him sitting on that fallen tree branch? Sharing these games gives you all a small sense of what it's like to be out there looking for animals like this. I do it every day, most of the time never knowing if there are any animals at all.
Most of the time I find nothing, but my searching eyes sometimes are able to spot a hidden little critter in the distant forest. My pictures are my prize for winning the game. My games are an effort to share my prize with you; to share the experience a little better. Then we can all find the animal, even if it might be so hidden that we can never see it at all. I hope you find this as fun as I do.

Game - Where Is The Squirrel?
It's time for another game where I ask you to find a hidden critter! The last game turned out to be a little too hard, and this one might be as well. But even a good guess might work. Clicking on the picture to make it bigger can also help. Goofy comedy guesses are also very welcome. Anyway, on to the rules of the game.
There is a squirrel in this picture somewhere. All you have to do is find it! You can also make a random guess. Then in the comments section describe to me where you think the squirrel is. There can be more than one winner, so make your guess even if someone else has the same guess. This is all just for fun, so there are no official prizes.
Tomorrow I'll reveal where the squirrel is. I'll also list any winners. And I'll also list whoever leaves the funniest guess whether it's right or wrong, but keep it clean. I know you can think of something funny; most of you are very creative bloggers. I hope you all have fun with this one. And good luck. Make your guess.
Nature Center Magazine - We have even more fun with squirrels today! Our Cool Nature Video is called Chipmunk Fishing. This one is a very funny video where a young man named Jon actually goes fishing for chipmunks. Don't worry, no chipmunks are harmed. Go see if he catches anything.

Game - Where Is The Critter?
It's game time once again! Today's game is much the same as most of my other games. Only this time, the game is the lead in to a fun multi-part story with many twists and turns. In this first part of the story, I'll ask you to find the hidden critter in this picture, and it is really hiding! In the days to come, I'll reveal why it is hiding. On to the game!
There is a critter of some sort hiding in this picture somewhere. The critter could be big or small. It could be anywhere. One clue for you is that this critter is one of my favorites. It can be found if you really try. My games are always easy. And cheating is okay if you can figure out how to do it. Now on to the rules.
This game is all just for fun. Sometimes I give an acknowledgment to the winner, but not always. It depends on my mood. I'll reveal the location of this critter tomorrow in a bigger post about the animal, along with some very fun pictures. You won't want to miss the pictures. Happy hunting!!!
Nature Center Magazine - I'm a fan of monkeys. Are you? Today we have a video of something that happened when humans influenced the habitat of one type of monkey. This one is falling down fun!

Why They Call Them Tree Squirrels
This post is so much more than just game results, but that is part of it. Today I'm sharing with you one of the strangest sights I see while I'm in the forest. The fox squirrel in my pictures today is demonstrating why they are called tree squirrels, but in the most extreme way!
I don't know what impression you get when you look at this top picture, but this squirrel is at the very top of some very tall trees, eating the new buds and leaves off of the branches. The branches around him look as if they could barely hold up a bird, but this squirrel is navigating them with the greatest of ease.
I've seen this happen before in this same exact spot, but I didn't have a camera I could zoom in so close. It may be different squirrels that I've seen doing this, but I like to imagine that it's the same squirrel every time. It's Flynn, the daredevil squirrel! Hero to all squirrels everywhere! The squirrel who valiantly poses for the pictures taken by those dangerous humans! Some squirrels even say that this audacious adventurer once rode on the back of an angry dog! They whisper his name in awe. Flynn, simply Flynn.
Okay, it's game results you wanted, and it's game results you're gonna get! Where was the squirrel hiding? I think you've all figured that one out by now, but I think it's still a good idea to point him out for you. What you see above is the original picture from yesterday's game, but with one small change. I have circled the exact place where Flynn the fantastic daredevil is located.
I have to be honest. I thought nobody would find the squirrel this time. But then to my total surprise, Ann, with the very first comment, Described exactly where it was! Tanya(allotments4you) pretended to be clueless, but I think she also got it right. Ginnymo, who I think is one of the best animal photographers ever, knew exactly what the squirrel was doing up there. And Harumi, who reminded me that I should also bring back the polls, also figured this one out. Others were close, but not quite there.
Congratulations to all of you who won. And I'll also say, "Curses, foiled again" as I shake my fist comically. If you all want a real treat, go and visit their blogs, and maybe even visit some of the other bloggers who played the game. You'll really make their day, and yours too.
Just to show you what this crazy squirrel was doing, lets zoom away just a bit. There he is right in the middle of the picture this time. The picture I used for the game was no accident. The reason I didn't center the squirrel in that picture is because I intended it for a game all along. My thoughts are of entertaining all of you even when I'm out on a hike!
Here he is in the same pose as he was in the game picture, but he's now close enough to see the hairs on his tail. The picture from the game is what I saw when I looked up into the trees. The camera really helped me out with this. The only thing that told me it was a squirrel up there was the way it was moving.
Just think of the maneuvering Flynn the fantastic fox squirrel had to do to get from the pose he is in above to the one in the first picture! Remember that when you dismiss your neighborhood squirrel as just an average everyday common squirrel. That squirrel is really a fascinating daredevil.
And we finally come to the last picture of Flynn. If you look closely, you can see him looking this way, as if he's checking to make sure he has an audience. We're watching you, Flynn. We know how great you are.
I'm glad I was finally able to share these scenes of what a squirrel can do. I don't know if we really stop and think about some of the amazing feats our animal friends are capable of. But all we have to do is take the time to watch. They'll amaze us every time.
Nature Center Magazine - There is a very special edition of our Free Wallpaper feature up today! Tanya from Allotments 4 you brings us a wonderful combination of photo and story. The story is probably even too good to be just part of the Free Wallpaper feature. They are both phenomenal! And whenever we have photo contributors, like Tanya, the photos are always excellent. You have to read this one!

Game - Find The Squirrel
I've been thinking for the past few days that there has been something missing here at The Everyday Adventurer. It finally occurred to me what it was. My Games! I haven't had a game here in quite awhile. It's been so long that many of you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, so I'll explain it to you.
There is a squirrel in the picture above. It's hidden very well. What you need to do is find the squirrel. If you click on the picture to make it larger, it might help a lot. When you think you have found the squirrel, do your best to describe its location in the comments section below. Even if someone else already has the same guess, go ahead and tell me where you think the squirrel is. Even a humorous wrong guess is fun. No prizes. This is just for fun.
I'll reveal the location of the squirrel in tomorrow's post. You won't want to miss it because you're not going to believe your eyes. I'm telling you this might be one of the strangest sights I've seen, but this squirrel does it routinely!
Nature Center Magazine - Copas is featuring the state of Arkansas today. His articles are some of the most interesting features of the site. Do yourself a favor and take a look.

Game - Find The Critter
I was looking through some very recent pictures today, and I ran across this one above. It took me the longest time trying to find the critter I was watching while I took this picture. After I got done playing my little game of hide and seek I thought maybe you would have fun with it too.
Now for the rules. All you have to do is examine the photo above until you find the critter that is hidden there. Then in the comments section describe where you think it is in the best way you can. Even if somebody else already picks what you think is the correct guess, you can still choose that same one. This game is only for fun, just like all of my others. So there are no guaranteed prizes, but there is a fun feeling of satisfaction if you guess right.
The game this time could be incredibly easy or incredibly hard. It took me some time to find the critter, but when I found it I discovered that is was obvious. I hope it is a challenge for you but you can find it in the end. I'll reveal where the critter is tomorrow along with a fun story and some stunning pictures. I'll even tell you the identity this critter. Happy hunting!

Did You Find The Squirrel?
That's the question, did you find the squirrel? Well, it appears that some of you did indeed find it! It was a very small target, but you can see it circled in red, towards the top of the big tree in the middle of the photo. The reason I knew it was in that tree is because I watched it run up there.
And how many of you actually found the squirrel this time? This game was a little harder than my last few, but some of you were still able to do it. But wait, how many? There were exactly four of you who guessed correctly where the squirrel is. And this time I'm going to list the winners, in order of when they guessed, right here!
I want all of you to visit their blogs! I read them regularly, and I can say that they are all excellent. Some of them have more than one blog, which are just as good!
First of all, I want to explain that I'm giving you a closer look at the squirrel here, so you can see that it's really there. It's still hard to see, but it's much more obvious than the picture from the game was. Can you see it now?
And now for the fun part! I asked you to write a completely strange description of where the squirrel might be. And those of you who participated in this part did an excellent job! As far as a winner though, ultimately, there can be only one! I brought back somebody to judge this part of the contest that some of you long time readers will know well.
It's my little friend Alice! It wasn't easy getting her to judge this one, because I had to drag her away from watching cartoons. That seems to be her new favorite thing, so she doesn't travel the nature trails much anymore. I showed her all of the comments, without revealing anyone's names to her. She chose the comment that she thought was the best of the strange. Here is the winner!
Excellent stuff! Honestly, I'm glad I wasn't the one who had to choose these, because I couldn't decide which was the best. I'm glad Alice was up late. Go check out all of the other entries in this part of the game too. You can find them right here.
.
And finally, here is the best look of this squirrel I have. As you can see from the first picture, he was very far away. My zoom lense came in very handy this time. Now that I have it, I wouldn't want to be without it. This was a fun game for me. All of your comments made it so. And I have one more thing to say before I finally go.
Whoo! That was not an easy post to write! I literally finished writing it as I posted it. I got up very early in the morning just to make sure I caught any additional comments. I'm happy to say I got 'em all! Thanks everybody! And I'll see you later!

"Bareback riding on the forward-looking thin guy striding through the winter woods, Mr. Foxy Squirrel tried hard to feign concern over the possibility that his fair steed would be unable to deliver him to work on time. His real concern was that the impromptu ride would be incautious on the ice and he would spill his latte grande from the corner Starnuts."

Game - Can You Find The Squirrel?
I have a new guessing game for you! Since the last two games, I've mentioned that I wanted to make the next one just a little bit harder. This one may just be it. There is a squirrel somewhere in this photo above. Can you find the squirrel? Do you see it? The challenge for today's game is to find the squirrel. This game is kind of a two parter, so read the whole post!
Here is what you need to do. Do whatever you can to find where the squirrel is in the picture. Then, in the comments section, describe where you see it, in the best way you can. It's that simple. As always, even if another person has already guessed the same, you can still make your guess; similar guesses are always welcome. You can also make more than one guess, just do it in separate comments so none of the rest of us are confused.
As most of you already know, I never promise prizes for my games. But sometimes if the list of winners is short enough, I'll post the names and website links of the winners on my solution post.
I do have one definite thing I want to do this time. Many of you know that I like to write strange things sometimes. Here is the second part of the game. It will be a little contest. I want you to give the strangest, most bizarre description you can of where this squirrel might be. For example, "The squirrel is floating above the ground, head high to a buffalo, in a piece of Swiss cheese." This part of the game doesn't have to be a correct answer. The winner of this part will definitely get a link on my solution post tomorrow. I'll also publish the winning comment for this. I'm using a child as the judge, so keep your descriptions clean.
This is important: Keep your strange description and your normal one in a separate comment, if they are different. You can enter either one or both parts of the game.
This is a chance to show how creative you can be as a writer. I urge everyone to read all of the other comments this time because I'm hoping there will be some very fun stuff in there. Normal non-contest comments are welcome here as well. See you all in the comments!

Did You Find It?
It seems that my games are just too easy for you. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I think I'll have to make the next one just a little bit more of a challenge. Easy is fun, but sometimes a good challenge makes the solution to a game even more satisfying when you find it. Yup, the next one will be a bit harder.
As you might have guessed, the picture above is the bird we were all looking for. It is indeed a heron. It could indeed be an egret, but an egret is just another kind of heron. The strange thing about all of this is that this bird was able to hide from me much beter than it hid from you.
When I actually took these pictures I was so busy concentrating on the cormorant that I never saw this other bird there. I wish I did because I would have considered it an even greater prize right then. The cormorants were out there almost every day, but these birds were much rarer for me. The funny thing was that I did see it earlier but I thought it was gone.
Here's the same picture I showed you yesterday. I circled the heron for you so you could identify it even easier. And now you know for sure that it's right where you thought it was. You won! Go ahead and pat yourself on the back. You deserve it. Go on, I'll wait... There you go. Isn't victory satisfying?
I mentioned yesterday that I found the heron in this picture by accident. You see, I have a program that rotates my computer's desktop background between all of the pictures I've taken. This one just happened to come up. I happened to look at it and I saw that other bird lurking back there behind the hanging branches.
The surprise of seeing that bird hiding back there was what convinced me to make a game out of it. I guess I should have known that if it was that easy for me to see the bird then you would get it without a problem. I guess its back to the drawing board. My evil plan of world domination will have to wait until the next game.
Do you see that almost white colored blob floating there in the middle of this picture? That is the same hiding bird, only this time it was flying right past me. It was maybe fifteen minutes earlier, and I was standing right across the lake from where it was hiding in the other picture. If only I would have waited.
This story is told so I guess that's it for today. I'll be back tomorrow with something more current. In the meantime I'll be coming up with a new plan to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! Haa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

Game - Find The Bird
After thinking for quite some time that it has been long overdue to have another game here, I couldn't come up with one no matter how hard I tried. Then as I looked at this picture that magically appeared as my computer's desktop background, I found the right game for you. It's, uh, in this picture!
I know! I didn't believe it myself when I first saw it, but this picture from last summer makes an excellent game. What is the game? Well, there is a bird in this picture and I want you to find it. No, it's not that cormorant that's sitting right in the middle of the picture. There is another bird in this picture. That's the one you need to find. Let me tell you how the game works.
There is a second bird somewhere in this picture, one that is not that cormorant. What you have to do is find that bird, then you have to possibly guess what kind of bird it is. You can click on the picture to get a better look. After you think you've figured it out, just leave a comment telling me where the bird is and what the bird is. To make it a little bit easier, I can tell you that I have featured this hidden bird a few times before on this blog.
You will definitely know if you see this bird, so you don't have to worry that the game might be hard. You also don't necessarily have to know the technical name of the bird, just describe it if you have to, I'll know if you got it. If somebody else already answered the same thing, you can still answer it too. Remember, the games here are just for fun, they're no big deal. The most fun though is to play, and for everyone to see what you've guessed.
That's the game. If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them promptly this afternoon. I'll see you here then.
(One final note. I'm postponing the poll results until some time this weekend. The poll results posts are difficult for me to write, and I just don't have a lot of time right now. I'm trying to catch up with everything on here right now, like comments, and I've been very limited on time. Missing just one day here puts me very far behind, so I'm desperately trying to catch up. Hopefully I can get caught back up within a few more days.)

Game - Guess The Creature
As you may have already guessed by the title of this post, it's game time again! This game was inspired by something that happened to me while I was making my way through this thick fog. There was a creature out there. That creature came at me out of that fog, and it was almost on me before I knew it was coming!
Yes, it indeed saw me and knew I was there. It made no mistake when it came after me. The only warning I had was that I saw this flash of light color in the foggy distance. Before everything was done I got a very good look at what it was. I can only say that I made it out of there unscathed. Tomorrow I'll show you that creature and tell you everything that happened.
For today though, for the purpose of this game, what I want from you is to guess the identity of this creature that was so interested in me. All I will tell you is that some very strange things happen when you're walking in thick fog like this. Why would something come after me like this? It has happened before, but I so far I've been very lucky that there has only been one incident where the creatures caught up to me.
Just as in all of my other games, this is just for fun. I promise no prizes but the fun of playing the game and making a guess. As always, leave your guess in the comments section. Even if you think somebody already guessed what you think is the correct answer, you can still guess the same thing. And you can have as many guesses or comments as you want. One guess per comment though so it doesn't get confusing.
Okay then, guess what this creature was that accosted me!

Guessing Game
Guess what! I have another all new game for you today! I decided to bring this one to you a little early after last week's game got off to a bad start for many of you. I'll be doing more of those, but now the main focus will not be the same, which is the way I intended it all along. Today's game is a bit different than I've done before though. Let me show you what it's all about.
Here you see in the picture above a carpet of leaves and some twigs on the forest floor. There is something else in this picture that I have not mentioned though. You can see clearly what it is. What I want you do do is guess what it is, even if somebody else already guessed the same. There can always be more than one winner here. But remember, it's very possible that the object is not at all what you think. Am I being deceptive? Well, of course! If I wasn't, this wouldn't be a game, now would it?
As I always tell you, my games are easy. They're meant to be that way so even children can play them. I don't ever promise a prize or anything, just a little bit of fun to brighten your day and mine. Even if you guess wrong, it's still fun to guess and speculate on what you see. Wild guesses are the most fun. This particular game will most likely kick off a fun subject here for the rest of the week.
So go to it, tell me what you think you see in this picture!

The Answer To It All
Hmm, I didn't think I was going to have to do this, but I guess maybe I didn't make the directions for yesterday's Fun Nature Trivia game clear enough. I was trying to keep it short so we could get on with the game. Then again I was trying to be vague about everything in an effort to kick off this new series of trivia posts I'll be doing.
The point was to give you a bit of a mystery to begin with to add even more fun to this first one. I guess it just became an exercise in frustration.I do have to admit that I've had a nice evil chuckle over the whole thing though. I even gave you a clue in the comments section. Since I made this into a game there was also a chance for there to be a winner of the game. That winner is Sharkbytes! She figured out the mystery and even gave out the answer on her site, My Quality Day.
I guess I also promised to reveal the answer today. I always say that my games are always the easiest kind, and this one was really no exception to that. You really didn't figure it out? Anyway, it turns out that I am magic. I have the power of invisibility! The answers to the game are in the post, but I've made them invisible. Magic!
Oh, I keep forgetting... I think you want to know how to be able to see those answers. Me and my twitchy typing fingers. Well here are two easy ways to do just that. The first way to find the answers is to click anywhere within that post with your mouse, then hold down Ctrl-A on you keyboard. Now look again at the page. There are your answers.
The second way is to click and hold down your left mouse button on the first word in the post. Now drag it down the screen until you reveal the answers you want to see. Each answer is right below each question! See? Very simple. Once you see the answers you'll know that the game is only intended to be there for a little bit of goofy nature trivia. I made the answers invisible to make it more fun while you read the questions.
After you find the answers you can come right back here and let me know how evil I've been. If you still have trouble I'll be here to answer your specific questions today. After that I'll be back tomorrow with an all new thrilling episode of The Everyday Adventurer!

Solution - Guess The Critter
I have the solution for yesterday's Guess The Critter game! Take a look in the picture above and you'll see that I have drawn a red shape around the critter that was such a mystery to us all. But what kind of critter is in this picture? The critter in this picture is a small Butler's Garter Snake. Check out that link for some good information about it.
A lot of you guessed this one correctly. I didn't expect that! There were even a few of you who were very accurate. If any of you want to know who they were, look at the comments section of yesterday's post. Now I'm going to list the winners right here in the order of their comments:
Congratulations to the winners. You saw the snake maybe easier than I did. I listed your names and links. I only listed one link for those of you who have more than one blog. I tried to make the most appropriate choice. If any more of you slide in before this post goes live I'll add you to the list. Please everyone, go and take a look at these blogs on this list. They are all very good.
Here in this picture is a little better look at this little snake. This little snake is only about 15 in. / 38 cm. That's kind of short for a garter snake. I've seen a few that were about twice that long. These are the most common snakes where I live, and they are mostly harmless.
At the same time, I discovered this snake right beside the hiking trail. I heard it a long time before I ever saw it. The only reason I knew what I was hearing is because I have learned through experience what a snake sounds like when it moves through the weeds. You might say I have learned to speak snake.
So any of you who have decided to go hiking or to a small nature park, if you are inexperienced, just remember that these little snakes might be lurking in the weeds, or even right on the trails. I have almost stepped on a few that way. So stay on the trail and watch where you step. Just so you don't get too afraid, garter snakes are probably less dangerous than an ordinary squirrel.
Here's a better look at a Butler's Garter Snake for you. I took this photo last spring when the grass was just beginning to grow, the green was finally coming back to the forest, and the animals were coming back out for the warmer weather. The nature park I was hiking was just full of these snakes. I heard them slithering through the old leaves every few minutes.
I do have to admit snakes give me the creeps, maybe that's why I'm so fascinated with them. And I know these little garter snakes won't bother me. They're the same as any other animal of the forest, like a squirrel or a chipmunk. Finally, I have to say that it's one of the most exciting things for me when I get to see a garter snake on my everyday adventures.
(One last thing. This post took me a very long time to write. I missed reading some of your blogs because of this. I'll try to catch up with all of you later today. I hope I didn't miss anything good. Vote in the poll!)

Game - Guess The Critter
I have a new game for you today! I hope you like it. As always, my games are just easy little diversions of the day. They are just for fun. There are no real prizes, except that I usually announce the winners in my post on the next day. And if they have a website I will include a link to that too. But what about this game? What is is about?
Well, in the picture above there is a friendly little critter. It's very difficult to see this little animal, so you might have to click on the picture so it will become bigger. The goal of the game is for you to try to find out what kind of animal is in the picture, and then tell us all your guess in the comments section below. That should be pretty simple. Even if you never see the little guy, you can at least make a guess.
I'll give you one clue. I have featured this type of animal in posts here on my blog before. With the hundreds of stories I've written that might not seem like a good clue, but there are only a limited amount of animals here. I'm not Noah with his ark full of every kind of animal, I'm just the very kind and humble Everyday Adventurer.
Okay, that's the game. Remember, as always, even if somebody else guessed the same critter you think might be there, you can still make the same guess. See, everybody has a chance to win. Now go on and tell us your guess so we can make this game fun!
(After you play the game, vote in my poll on the sidebar. The more votes we get, the better I can make my results post next week!)

Game Results - 5 Deer
Now on to the winners of this game. Pretty much everyone guessed correctly that these animals are deer. The other part of the game was that you had to find out the correct number of animals. It wasn't quite as easy as some of the past games I've had, but maybe that made it more fun. But who guessed everything correctly? And the winners are...
Check out the comments to see how close each one of the winners' guesses were. Then go and visit their blogs and leave each one a nice comment. I know the ones with blogs very well, and they all have really good websites. I don't know who Anonymous is because that name is so common, but Anonymous, like the others, deserves congratulations for winning.
Now on to my last bit of business for the post.
I have received two awards, and on the same day! The Humane Award was from Glynis. You can find her post here. The Humane Award is to honor certain bloggers who are considered, kindhearted individuals. They regularly take part in blog activities and always leave the most supportive and encouraging comments.
The Kreativ Blogger award is from Jen(JStantonChandler). You can find her post here. In this one you share seven facts about yourself and then pass it on to seven other people. You can find more details in Jen's post. So go read it!
The thing many of you don't know is that I'm a notorious award cheater. I always fail to follow rules. I have my reasons. For one, I develop a terrible writer's block when trying to share things about myself. So read my blog and I will reveal these things little by little. It's easier for me that way.
Now, the last several times I received awards I failed to acknowledge them in a post here. I had been letting my outside world's troubles seep into this blog and I was feeling overwhelmed, so all I had room for was my usual nature posts. I wanted to show my appreciation to the people who gave them to me, but I just didn't have it in me at the time. So I want to give the Humane Award to all of the people who gave me awards in the past.
Now here's something a little different. I give the Kreativ Blogger award to the winners of my In The Meadow game. They're listed towards the top of this post. It's not seven, but that's my choice. For the winners, you may do what you like with the award. You can follow the rules that can be found at Jen's blog. Or you can admire the award right here, and leave it at that. It's your choice, and your award. I hope you like it.
Okay, this was a much bigger post than I intended. I'll be back tomorrow with my next post, and I'll be reading all of yours some time later today. Talk to you then!

Game: In The Meadow
Well, the flowers are probably difficult to see here too. Mainly because it was very early in the morning. The sun had just begun to come up, and many of the flowers had not opened up for the day yet. There is also a heavy morning fog that obscured everything. But all is not lost.
Even with these problems, I still wanted to show you the pictures from this time because something very special happened. I had an animal encounter in this meadow as I was taking these pictures. I will begin to tell you more about it tomorrow, but for today I want to have a little game that involves the next photo.
This game is a little more difficult than the last one, but just remember, it's only for fun. There's no stress involved here. Guess whatever you want, even if someone else already made the same guess, or even if you don't really know. Guesses are fun! Also, I really have a very good reason for having a game this time.
When I first saw the animals out there, I had a very hard time seeing them all. In fact, I didn't even know they were there until I took my fourth or fifth picture. They actually revealed themselves to me first. I'm hoping that playing this game might help you experience the same thing I did. So make your guess and share it in the comments section, or just share your thoughts. Have fun!
