I came across these strange looking plants the other day, and I thought they looked pretty good to eat. I figure there wouldn't be anything wrong if I just popped one in my mouth and began chewing away. What do you think? Would you eat one of these?
Actually, I really am going to eat them, but I do know what they are. They are habaneros, and they're a particularly hot type of chili pepper. I'm also not going to just eat a whole one. I'm going to use them for cooking. I'm not really brave enough to try to eat these by themselves.
I've also had these green and red chilis above, and they're very good on tacos. I've eaten these whole, and they're pretty good that way. I'm getting ready to do a little experimenting with the flavors of some of these. I don't know for sure yet what I'll make, but I know it will taste pretty good.
These are some of the things I took pictures of since my last post. I haven't been seeing many animals out right now, so I'll focus on some other interesting things. I've learned that not many animals seem to come out this time of month for some reason. But there are plenty of plants around. Maybe one of these times I'll let you know what I made with these chilis.
Wonderful vegetables, there will be wonderful sets. I am greeting
ReplyDeleteThe vegetables tasted good too.
DeleteMy human likes mild chiles, but she will not go near those habaneros! And she is half Hispanic, so you would think she would like them.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you mix the habaneros in with something else then they are good.
DeleteThe first thing I thought when I saw them was they have to be HOT so I wouldn't touch them.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed hot. They taste good too though.
DeleteOh boy do they look hot, hot, hot! I like a little spice but if they are too hot, I can't! I am sure you will make plenty of great dishes with them!
ReplyDeleteThey are very hot. They don't stay too hot if you cook them the right way.
DeleteI thought those were hot peppers! Not for me, buddy. Don't go popping unfamiliar wild foods into your system till you know what they are, ok?
ReplyDeleteI was a little misleading with this post. These peppers aren't actually wild. They are from the garden I have with my neighbor out back.
DeleteAlright! Love 'em too. We didn't have very good luck with habaneros, so we plant jalapeƱos. We ran short of these while making a two-gallon batch of salsa the other day, so I added a generous portion of Blair's After Death sause. That gave it a nice "bite." I like food that bites back.
ReplyDeleteI love the hot food. Hot peppers are something I can't get enough of.
Deletei love a little spice, but not when it is too hot and spicy, however, i know some who can eat these whole :) i also love the leaves for vegetable soup :) the leaves are not spicy at all :)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try that with the leaves. It sounds like a good idea.
DeleteI grow my own chillis and we eat them a lot so I knew straight away what they were....you can make such good things with them....maybe you can find some some other good plant to mix them with. Were these growing wild or cultivated??
ReplyDeleteThe chilis are from the vegetable garden my neighbor and I have out at the back part of the property. I neglected to mention that part in the post.
DeleteWe like peppers here too!
ReplyDeleteI love most hot peppers. That spiciness is one of my favorite flavors.
DeleteThose habaneros never look friendly to me.
ReplyDeleteHabaneros can be friendly if you know how to approach them right.
DeleteYikes! I could never eat those! But I do enjoy the mild hot peppers. Colorful pics!
ReplyDeleteSome of these are mild. I ate them first.
Deletelike this peppers a lot!
ReplyDeleteMe too. They are great.
DeleteWe are spicy foodies. The chillies look really fiery.we use them quite often in our cooking.
ReplyDeleteI love chilis in my food. I can't get enough of them.
DeleteI love most hot chilies. That spiciness is one of my favorite........
ReplyDeleteThat spiciness always gives food an extra goodness.
DeleteThose are beautiful chilies. I love spicy food and I get it all the time, of course, here in India. I've been to Barbados several times and they make a hot sauce, which is kind of orange-yellow in color - made from Scotch bonnet
ReplyDeletepeppers which is one of the hottest I've ever had anywhere. It's really good on their flying fish.
We have a few kinds of chilis from that part of the world growing here in the garden too. I haven't tried them yet, but I bet they're good.
DeleteThis habaneros look good! I've never met a chili pepper that I didn't like!
