Nice Squirrel

I have something for you today that I didn't want to lose to the past. I've been trying to make sure that some of this good stuff is shown here. I took the pictures of this squirrel on the same day that I saw the angry squirrel that I showed you in my Fiction Friday post, The Return Of Mr. Nutz.

The squirrel in my pictures today wasn't angry at all. I encountered this furry little guy on the opposite side of the park from the angry squirrel. This one was actually kind of curious to know what I was doing.

It's not really often that an animal will slow down and let me take it's picture, but this one did just that. It was a refreshing thing after just half an hour before when I thought the other squirrel was considering if it could get away with attacking me.

If you look at the pictures here and compare them with the other post, you'll see a few very similar poses. But they're almost like night and day. This squirrel didn't really mind me being there that much.

It didn't really care about me very much at first. It was really more interested in finding a tasty acorn under the old leaves. After it looked at me a few times it would go about it's business digging through the leaves.

After a little bit of searching, it started to notice that I wasn't going away. The squirrel was becoming slightly concerned, so it decided to take to the trees just in case I became a threat. I couldn't blame it for it's concern, people usually moved on.

Now usually when a squirrel becomes even a little bit frightened, their first reaction is anger. They'll puff up a bit and try to make a few squirrely threats. This one wasn't too frightened, it was only taking precautions. It still had to make sure it stayed safe.

I didn't make any moves towards it, so after a few more minutes it decided I wasn't going to be a big threat. That's when it began to calm down even more. I think it was the first squirrel I had ever seen that didn't have a bad temper.

I'll show some later pictures of this squirrel another time. Maybe this post is my first cliffhanger. He posed for me for a long time, so I just can't fit everything in one post. Since the evil Mr. Nutz has a name, maybe I need to figure out a name for this good squirrel. I'll show some even better pictures of him when I have that name. See ya!

  1. Such a cute little critter. I used to despise squirrels when I first started feeding the birds in my backyard because they would knock down my feeders and spill all of the seed. Since then they have kind of grown on me and I feed them too.

    Very nice pictures.

  2. This one looks fatter and well fed. Maybe that is why he is a bit more reasonable

  3. He looks real healthy. They look red compared to my Grays. But a lot of mine have reddish tails right now. Not sure why.

  5. Every creature is celebrating Mother's Day, peace is the theme.

You better watch out when the day is over, though you won't name him Mr. Nutz.

  9. Kallen - I guess the reason I like squirrels is because I'm going into their territory instead of them coming into mine.
    -

Kruel - Yeah, maybe he doesn't think I'm there to steal all of his food. He did want to know what I was doing though.
    -

Ginnymo - This red colored fox squirrel is the kind I'm used to. I've only ever seen one gray squirrel.
    -

WiseAcre - I guess I must not have had a hungry look in my eyes or something.
    -

Rainfield - You're right! I have noticed that there are a lot of squirrels that have been watching me.
    -

BC Doan - This squirrel waited for me for a long time. I was able to do both very easily. This was a fun one.

Poetic Shutterbug - I noticed that he seems kind of muscled up. I hope he hasn't been dipping into any squirrel steroids. :)

The Retired One - That's the best idea for a name for him so far. Well, actually it's the only one. I think that will probably become his new name, because I can't come up with a better one.

  11. I have a little friend who lives in the tree right beside my apartment and every morning he or she will be waiting for me to bring him his breakfast which I do. The little squirrel is no longer scared of me he(or she) comes up close to me to get his food. I like to watch him eat it. The other day he brought a friend with him for breakfast so I had to go back in and get some more food. Before you know it he will bring his whole family to eat, Smile... I will feed them all but lets keep that a secret for now.. ha ha ha.. I think my friend is so cute..

  12. Betchai - That would be pretty good being able to do some of the things a squirrel can do. Climb trees like that, and maybe even jump from branch to branch.

Lilyruth - That would be something, a whole family of squirrels patiently waiting for their breakfast. Squirrels can be pretty good once you make friends with them. Up until the one in my pictures here, they've all been kind of cranky with me though.
