Flowers For You

Today I want to give you some flowers. They smell as beautiful as they look. I picked each one with great care, and I thought of you every single time. I searched for six days days, and as many different places, so I could find just the right ones. Do you like them?

I don't really know what any of these are called, but I don't have to know the name to know that I like them. I found these first two at a new place with miles of hiking trails. I have yet to explore it fully. I'll be going back there soon, and who knows what wonders I'll find?

Oops, these flowers have bugs all over them! Well, I don't exactly know if they're considered flowers anyway, but I still like them. If you look very closely they look as much like flowers as anything else. The only problem is those darn bugs!

Actually I like the bugs too. They seem to like these flowers a lot. There's always something swarming around them. I guess you can tell how small the flowers actually are because of the bugs on them. They are very tiny. I'm sure somebody has seen these flowers before and knows what they are.

Now these I recognize! I could be wrong of course, but these are common daisies. These grow in so many places that I go, as long as there is sun shining down. I happened to see these right next to the lake where my favorite geese like to swim.

I was testing out my newest camera settings with these daisies. I think I'm on the right track, because the pictures came out great. I didn't have to adjust anything after I took them. The detail and the lighting came out just right.

Here are some tiny yellow flowers. They are smaller than a dime. They grow in little patches close to the ground. I almost passed right by them, but at the last minute I decided to stop. I didn't want to regret leaving them there. I did something like that once, and I don't think I can ever forget it.

There was another little flower. It was the prettiest flower I ever saw. It seemed to just gather in the light of the sun. I knew it wouldn't be there long when I first saw it, but I soon began to think it would be there forever. When I finally decided to take a picture so I could keep it with me forever, it was gone.

Here is the last one for today. This group of flowers stood up higher than all of the rest. It was one of a kind out there among the others. You can see more of the little yellow ones in the grass below them. I've seen flowers like this before, but only in pictures.

I was at least ten feet away from these. I didn't even have to get close to them to get a good picture. My new camera settings are working great. Just a few more tests to make sure I have everything covered. I'll still do some experimenting after that though. Who knows what cool tricks I might discover?

  2. Great to have experiments which are fun all the time.
I like to take pictures on flowers, but I have to learn how to talk to them before I can talk to you.

  8. I think betchai is correct about the wild rose, and the second photo may be yarrow. If the leaves are like a soft fern, it probably is. I love your pictures. Flowers are my favorite photo subjects - the models never complain :) Great blog!

  16. Botany freak that I am, I liked seeing your plants. And better yet I knew what they were, or at least the genus... Not species though.

  20. The Retired One - Those are maybe my favorites too. I've been trying to do more posts with flowers. They're too photogenic to ignore.

  21. Ratty- Well, you know I have to name 'em. Botany is one of my highest passions (maybe right after hiking). You are getting good pix. Now if I could learn to do the same. A lot of disappointing shots as I'm going through my card from the hike.
#1 - pretty sure it's a wild blackberry (Rose family so betchai and Sandi are right)
#2 - wild yarrow- Sandi got this one!
#3 - yes, common Oxeye daisy. I like its Latin name because it rhymes: Chrysanthemum leucanthemum
    #4 - Birdfoot trefoil
#5 - Moth mullein, Not as common as the yellow mullein, but same genus.

  22. Yay, Sharkbytes--so helpful to have names to attach to those images!

  23. Sharkbytes - I knew that you were busy the day this post was out, and I was sure you would know the names of these flowers. I'm glad you took a look. I've been wondering what they were ever since I decided to post them.

My camera settings are working great for things like this, but not so great for animals where the lighting isn't as good. I'm getting a lot of blur there.

Nina - Sharkbytes is a hero for things like this. She came in and saved the day like Superman. It's not the first time.
