It's Back!!!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back outside, the jaws of winter have come back! We all thought we were safe in the calm peaceful currents of spring, and then winter resurfaced to take us back down into the biting cold of it's icy depths. Can anything stop this horrifying beast?

We've had nice pleasant weather for weeks now, but today we just had a winter snowstorm to match any we've had all year. It started out like any other spring day. It was a little colder than others, because the day was one of those rainy spring days that we have once or twice a week.

Then, as the afternoon began to get late, the temperature began to drop a further, and the rain turned into snow! At first it was only a little spring snow. That was no big deal. Then it turned into a good sized snowstorm, which threw us right back into winter's icy grip.

I gotta say, that was fun to write! It was a bit of an exaggeration, but it was technically correct, and we did just have a pretty good sized snowstorm. The reality is that it has been much too warm for the snow to stick around. By tomorrow or the next day, we won't have any evidence that it was here.

Little setbacks like this are bound to happen in the first days spring. This was the first one, and it may not be the last. The good thing is that as the days go by, this will happen less and less. Even now, snowstorms like this one have been reduced to a fun little novelty here. Tomorrow they will be a long forgotten thing of the past.

Winter is dead. Long live the spring!

  1. Wow, don't send it to us please. We had a beautiful, gentle rain yesterday and again today but no snow and no cold weather. I'm not envious at all. Thanks for sharing the photos.

  2. We had a gentle rain before the bright sunshine yesterday. We have green and colourful flowers. I do not want winter either. Just keep it in your post.

  3. You can thank my father in law for the snow. He keeps doing his snow dance to get out of doing yard work. Hang in there the sun will shine eventually.

  4. Wow. So foreign to me. I have been planting in the garden all day in shorts with no shirt. I think I got sunburned.

  7. Mountain Woman - It was only a momentary setback. The storm seemed strong at the time, but it's teeth fell out today.

Rainfield - Unlike some of the other times I posted about snow, this was a fun post because I knew the snow wouldn't last. We are already turning green here.

Ryan - Tell him to keep on dancing, so the snow will eventually tire itself out. That might have been our last big snow of the year. The warm weather has already snapped back into place. It's just too strong for the snow now.

The Astral Cowboy - People here were beginning to do that too. They forget that winter still doesn't want to go yet. Tomorrow winter will be forgotten again.

Kruel - Actually our snow is normal here. Our early spring has been the strange part. Our hard winter came to an abrupt halt. Now it's just trying to regain it's rightful place, but it's attempt came too late.

Sharkbytes - I think I was two or three days late last time it snowed. This one was too fun for me to miss though.

  8. Ratty thanks for reminding me about the unpredictable weather. One thing for sure I can predict is that it will be hot and sunny here tomorrow!

  9. Mike - It must have been a while since you've seen weather like this. A winter snowstorm isn't usually very fun, but a spring snowstorm like this one was an amusing look at winter's last gasp.

  10. i won't say "sorry about the snowstorm to interfere with your spring happiness" since you seem to be enjoying it, glad to know your side of the country is turning greener now.

  11. You've really got the hang of capturing the falling snow Ratty. Are these taken using the flash?

Unfortunately we haven't had any snow for a few weeks, just hail. :-(

If I'm lucky it'll snow next week while I'm on the Isle of Wight :-)

  13. We are holding our breath here on the snowstorm heading east from the Fargo area...
The Soo got some snow this week, but so far, we are just cold with no new snow.
But, we still have snow on the ground!
Some brown spots (melted areas) are getting bigger, but we still have plenty of snow to melt yet...

  14. We have rain today, should get rid of most of the snow. I'm thinkin' about the guy who's hiking in ND. I hope he holes up till the weather is better.

  15. Betchai - Exactly. I enjoyed the snow because I know it can't last. The green is coming back now. Spring is here.

John - Yeah, I turn on the flash and that makes capturing the snow pretty easy. I've also been told that increasing the camera's shutter speed helps, but I haven't tried it yet.

Our snow is pretty much finished, but we might get another small relapse or two.

Vanilla - From what Ryan said, I'm guessing that's what it is. I hope it doesn't work very well. :)

The Retired One - Sometimes that may be one of the negative things of living so far north. At least you are getting some signs of spring.

Sharkbytes - Hiking in a snowstorm can be dangerous. Hopefully he will be fine.
