A Look At The Park

I'll try to give you a look at my little nature park this time. There's more grass than anything else here. That's really what everywhere looks like in my area, grass. There are scattered clumps of trees, and if you get in a good place you can pretend you're in a regular old forest sometimes.

I haven't seen much in the park on my last few visits, but something will come. Right now I'm just trying to get used to walking nature trails again. Ever since that old car accident I can't walk very far before my back starts acting up, but I hope with repetition I'll get better.

My back has been getting worse and worse over the last few years until now I can only walk partway in this little park before I have to give up. I used to go for miles and miles. Once I get back to traveling this whole park I'll be much happier.

The picture above shows the main entrance to the trails in the park.

You can see above how the trails are cut into the grass by a riding mower. All the trails in all the parks in the area are done this way because of all the grass. There aren't many dirt trails.

I hear lots of birds in these trees but I almost never see them. I'm watching very closely for them so I can get a few pictures, but so far they've eluded me easily.

I think that's really all I have to say today about this. Nothing rewally eventful has been happening at the nature park. One of these times I'm sure I'll walk right up on a deer or something.

One other thing. I've started a new little blog. It's just a little thing I'm doing for fun. I've had very strange dreams ever since I can remember. I've decided to start writing down what I can remember of them when they happen. I thought it might be an interesting look into a person's subconscious mind. Just in case you want to take a look you can find it here at this link: Strange Dreams Of The Rat

You don't have to visit it. Like I said, I'm just doing it for a little fun. I don't really care if I never get any visitors there, but that would be fun too and comments are free. I'll talk to you later.

  1. Even though it's not a forest, I still think this is a pretty nature park! I am curious, so I'm going to take a look at your other blog.

  3. I feel your pain. Not being able to hike any distance is a real bummer when all you want to do is get lost in the woods.

    1. I hope one of these days all the walking will lead to my back easing up a little bit.

  7. I'm sorry about your back, Ratty. I had back surgery nearly thirty years ago when I was an operating room nurse. It changed my life...not all bad, though. I slipped on oil that leaked on the black marble floor...from one of our OR tables....we didn't even know it until I went running from the room to get blood for the patient. I went flying and crashed down on my butt. Three months later, I had extensive surgery. I had ruptured discs at three levels on both sides. Though I had Joe Montana's surgeon, I didn't do so well. The fusion ( piece of my right hip ) took a whole year to fuse. I had to wear a fiberglass body jacket with a leg brace that restricted my left leg movement. I've had chronic tingling in my left leg and foot and I couldn't return to work in psych or the OR. Fortunately for me, forensic nursing came along and I was in on its early days...for 21 years. I now use a rolling walker ( not one of those mechanical ones ) and I'm still traveling the world. I can't imagine what I'd be doing if I had healed well...probably dancing the tango in Argentina!!!

  9. Bummer about your back. Maybe you can start doing stretching exercises or something. Ask your doctor what you can do to get better. Maybe you can do some exercises to strengthen your back and get better faster.

I like the new blog. I think this may just be a "reading" blog. I'm not sure I need to comment on what you are dreaming as that is very personal.

  10. It doesn't matter if you don't see birds what matters is you got outside and walked a little further today than you did yesterday!

  11. beautiful pictures, it's nice to find our little get away close to our home where we could imagine forest preserve. Where I live is far from the forest, so whenever I am in a park with so much trees, I would also imagine myself that I am deep in the middle of the forest. :)

  12. Enjoy seeing the green Ratty before it will turn all yellow and brown.

Sorry to hear the trouble of your back, but keep walking no matter how short the walk is.
