Female Cardinal And Junco Sharing the Feeder

I thought maybe I should show you what happens when one of the Cardinals shows up at the feeder. Every time any bird comes to my feeder the Juncos come around hoping to shoo it away. The Cardinals are too big to be scared away very easily.

Usually the Juncos aren't very brave where the Cardinals are concerned, but this little guy wanted to prove the point that the feeder belonged to him. He wasn't going to leave as long as the Cardinal was there. The Juncos never get this close together even with other Juncos.

I usually have something to write between every picture, but what was there to say? I wanted to show you the pictures, but I've already told of this struggle between the Juncos and the other birds. I had many other pictures as good as these but I needed to stop before it got out of control.

I take so many pictures of these birds that it's hard to choose between just a few. It's just so easy to get them right now. I've never had it this good with birds. I should have used a feeder a long time ago. Back in Michigan I had neighbors who would have stolen a feeder. Now it's easy.

I still like getting birds in their natural habitat. It just seems so much better that way. That's the way I always did it before, and I got some good stuff. I'll have to look extra hard for them when I'm able to get back out again. I'll talk to you later.

  1. Nice shots - I don't get many garden birds like this - maybe the winters are too mild?

    1. I think that pushy Junco is lucky the Cardinal is kind of polite. They weren't either one comfortable.

  3. I am surprised you don't have any finches. They argue constantly and are fun to watch. You can get a thistle feeder to attract them in. I have one that you fill 2 mesh socks that I like.

    1. I don't think many birds really come around here. These at my feeder are the most I ever see. I almost never see birds in the trees here. I'll look into thaqt feeder for the finches though. Maybe I'll get lucky.

  4. Ha. Very cool shot. 'My' cardinals do not like to share. Won't land with others on the feeder, will take off if another comes down.

    1. The thing that I think keeps these Cardinals coming is that they're the biggest birds at the feeder.

    1. It may be just my particular Juncos. Others have said theirs live peacefully with the other birds.

  8. When you want the whole seed bell all for yourself, you will make yourself braver than you usually are. Apparently! Great picture.

    1. I wish they would get along, but then there wouldn't be anything good to post about. They do seem to share the feeder well though.

  11. A drama between a cardinal and a junco.
That happens between a spider, a mushroom and me too.

    1. The cardinals never put up with anything from the juncos. The juncos push, but they're still the smallest birds there.

    1. It's more funny to watch them than anything else. These little juncos think that feeder belongs to only them.
