Time For Turkey

I saw this turkey in Stone Park while I was exploring around a little bit. I had to take a few pictures quickly because it saw me too. This is the only one that didn't turn out blurry. The bird quickly hid itself behind a few trees so I had to move on.

Turkeys around here seem to be pretty comfortable with humans as long as they keep their distance. I was kind of close before we saw each other. It still didn't move away too quickly, but it did make sure it put some distance between us. I didn't bother chasing it to see how fast it could go.

Even though I only got this one picture I'm still happy because I get to show this turkey in its natural habitat. When I was a kid I remember seeing drawings of turkeys in settings just like this one. This is a little more interesting than the drawings.

  2. Good shot, Ratty. They're usually very shy.

    1. That's where I'm lucky, the turkeys around here aren't very shy at all.

    1. I hate to say it, but I like the cooked ones better. They're just so tasty.

  4. That's a great photo Ratty...I love the vibrant green on the ground contrasted with the grey of the turkey. With the natural world as your backdrop you really don't have to lay around with colours!!

    1. That's what's great about nature and all it's colors, it usually gives a good backdrop.

    1. I'm glad it was this picture that came out okay. Most of the blurry ones also hid the head a little.

    1. It was more luck than anything, and it was also the fact that these turkeys aren't very scared of humans.

  7. I have never seen a wild turkey in its natural habitat but I have seen Grouses in Scotland and Guinea Fowl in South Africa. They are both very beautiful birds!
