My Private River

I finally have it for you! This is what lies at the end of the small path in my hidden secret world. It's this hidden river! I come here to be alone because there is nobody ever here. This is my best place to relax and not have to worry about any interruptions.

Actually I've seen a total of two other people in the many years that I've been coming here. The first person is one that I brought here with me one time. You don't have to be totally alone to be in a special place. You can also share it with a favorite person or even more. And that's why I'm sharing this with all of you.

The other person I saw here was a park official that revealed to me that he also comes out here every six months or so for the same reasons I do. I saw him last spring when this whole area was flooded. This little creek was a raging river then. In fact, the whole park was deeply flooded in many places. He told me that it happens almost every spring.

And here is the reason I had to wait to show you this river. I took the time to bring you this special video. Some of you mentioned in your comments that you liked the sound of running water. Of course I completely agree, so I just had to go to the very best place where I can capture that for you.

This is a very beautiful place, even in the winter time. In the summer it is spectacular. When I first found this place I walked up to the river and I found a deer only a few feet away from me getting a drink of water. It leaped all the way over the river in one jump. I then noticed that there were two others with it.

I felt bad that I interrupted their drink. I guess they consider this place theirs in the same way that I consider it mine. There was no way to get them to come back, so I left soon after. I didn't stay very long that first time, but I stay and explore more each time I come back. Now I stay for very long periods of time. I haven't seen the deer again in this place.

This last picture shows the area of the river where the deer was. It was at the edge of the river between the two groups of fallen trees, on the left side. It jumped across to the right side of the river and ran off into the forest. As I've gained more experience, the deer don't run from me anymore.

Look at the pictures and especially watch the video. The sound of the water is what makes it great. I'll be back here again, and much sooner. When the floods come back in the spring, I'll be back with my camera, and I'll make sure I get video of that too. That's going to really be fun. I love the anticipation it gives me.

  2. I love sitting by the river like you do. It is quiet as to listen to the whisper of the flowing water, chirping of birds...

It is a real gift to us.

  4. Wow, the downed trees there! Is it from a windstorm or from the flooding that killed the trees and made them fall down? Or a beaver?
Loved the sound of the river bubbling!

  5. It is nice of you to share your secret place. The sound of moving water is very relaxing, sometimes even mesmerizing. Most people probably have hidden worlds, hopefully more than one. Nice post Ratty.

  16. This reminds me of the discoveries we used to make in the woods near my old high school. There were little creeks in the woods which created very peaceful settings. Unfortunately, those woods are all gone today.
You're lucky to be able to appreciate them on this level :)

  17. Ratty, this is such a special place. I think it would be nice to sleep out here at night in the summer, near the river. I always love to be near the ocean to sleep, the sound of the waves is so soothing and lulls me to sleep. When I am cruising, I end up opening the balcony door at night so I can hear the ship moving through the ocean. It is a wonderful sound.
